D: Jon S. Baird (Filth).
S: John C. Reilly, Steve Coogan, Nina Arianda, Shirley Henderson.
The melancholic swansong of blockbuster entertainment careers is complimented by spurts of sharp banter. Bar the occasional flourish, this feels like a TV movie of the week. The make up on John C. Reilly is distracting.
MARI ★★★☆☆
D: Georgia Parris.
S: Bobbi Jene Smith, Phoebe Nicholls, Madeleine Worrall.
A family melodrama, which at times feels skilfully economic and at others clumsily forced. The refreshing move was to incorporate Bobbi Jene Smith's dancing. Georgia Parris is a director to watch.
