A brand new exhibition space has opened in the heart of London's theatre-land. It is devoted to the silver screen, and a satellite for the main institution on the South Bank, the London Film Museum. Its inaugural exhibitions are: ‘Magnum on Set’ and ‘Capturing the Shadows’. The latter, curated by Stephen Herbert and Leslie Hardcastle, takes the visitor through the history of photography – from the first picture to the invention of the movie camera. The culmination is footage from the Lumière Brothers and Georges Méliès. ‘Magnum on Set’ contains wonderful behind-the-scenes stills from some iconic movies, e.g. “Charlton Heston takes a seat for a script conference with an ape looking on” (from PLANET OF THE APES of course).
