One of my favourite films of last year is getting released in the UK next month. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/medusa-deluxe.html The trailer: BEEF [season 1] ★★★★★
Petty revenge escalates into a vortex of carnage. A comedy so dark it’s not funny. People on the edge emotionally, a road rage catalyst, no easy answers are offered. A virtuoso television show. POLITE SOCIETY ★★★★☆
Director: Nida Manzoor. Starring: Priya Kansara, Ritu Arya, Seraphina Beh, Ella Bruccoleri, Akshay Khanna, Shona Babayemi, Shobu Kapoor, Jeff Mirza, Nimra Bucha. A joyous London-set action-comedy about a teenager trying to derail her sister’s wedding. The dialogue is so enjoyably punchy - the cutting barbs do even more damage than the kicks. Priya Kansara is a blockbuster lead in waiting. VICE PRINCIPALS [seasons 1-2] ★★★★☆
Eighteen episodes of comedy gold. Danny McBride’s most satisfying project. Excruciating workplace battles unfold at a high school. A show that skilfully flits between morally dishonourable ambition and heartfelt camaraderie. THE THREE MUSKETEERS: D'ARTAGNAN ★★★½☆
Director: Martin Bourboulon. Starring: François Civil, Vincent Cassel, Romain Duris, Pio Marmaï, Louis Garrel, Vicky Krieps, Lyna Khoudri, Eva Green. Energetic, charismatic, exciting. At last a version to rival the 1973 movie. A fast-paced French period action flick, with the Vincent Cassel and Romain Duris casting seal of quality. Can’t wait for Part II due later this year! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 ★★☆☆☆
Director: James Gunn (THE SUICIDE SQUAD, SUPER, SLITHER). Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, Vin Diesel, Sylvester Stallone. What an anticlimax. Just another forgettable superhero flick. The gang's chemistry is diluted in this instalment. The movie has the whiff of going through the motions. And the ending is rife with sentimentality. |
