There are a lot of derivative-looking animated movies this year. I have a feeling nothing will beat ZOOTROPOLIS/ZOOTOPIA/ZOOMANIA.  Kimmy has gone a bit POLLYANNA and PLEASANTVILLE. He is a hit and miss director; but if Bruno Dumont's SLACK BAY is as excellent as his P'TIT QUINQUIN (a black humoured TRUE DETECTIVE), we are in for a treat.  “Sir, I have seen you go through similar phases in 2016 and 2012 and 2008 and 2005 and 1997 and 1995 and 1992 and 1989 and that weird one in 1966,” Alfred Pennyworth (Ralph Fiennes) Tom Tykwer is one of the most underrated directors working today. |
