LOVE PUNCH is out in April. My take on it: http://www.filmaluation.com/love-punch.html
The seemingly delightful Emma Thompson has unfortunately starred in two of my duds of 2013: SAVING MR BANKS and LOVE PUNCH, the latter with Pierce Brosnan.
LOVE PUNCH is out in April. My take on it: http://www.filmaluation.com/love-punch.html Music industry comedy BENNY & JOLENE is out in the spring,
My take on it: http://www.filmaluation.com/benny--jolene.html BEOWULF & GRENDEL (2005) ★★★☆☆ Earthy. Moral dissection surpassingly ambitious. Butler-Skarsgard-Polley-Marsan add class, but needed extra couple of helpings of badassery.
A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLES SWAN III ★★½☆☆ Sheen-Murray-Schwartzman-Plaza. Annoyingly quirky take on heartbreak.
Douchey bromance rom-com THAT AWKWARD MOMENT is out next month.
My take on it: http://www.filmaluation.com/that-awkward-moment.html Keep your peepers out for ace Korean cops and robbers action-thriller COLD EYES.
My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/cold-eyes.html The new comedy from the director of THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT, starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne. The first trailer: Out to own today: ELYSIUM“They will hunt you to the edge of the Earth for this,” Spider (Wagner Moura) The tang of disappointment pervades, one is gutted to report. Seemingly having triple the budget, but instead of triple the brains or triple the excitement, ELYSIUM is a deeply unsatisfying follow-up to director Neill Blomkamp’s wow-inducing DISTRICT 9 from 2009. That debut was an excellent sci-fi parable, on the surface chronicling interplanetary visitors living among us, though was an eviscerating look at apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa; encapsulated in a pulse-thumping action thriller. Forget the clunky AVATAR, it is DISTRICT 9 and LOOPER at the vanguard of glorious modern science fiction cinema. So having more resources, one was salivating at the prospect of what Blomkamp might offer up. ELYSIUM unfortunately is a movie saturated in convenience and corner cutting. [To read more click here.] THE WAY WAY BACK“Another night of drinking alone I was going to kill myself,” Betty (Allison Janney) Writer-director-actors Jim Rash and Nat Faxon co-adapted THE DESCENDANTS with Alexander Payne, and won an Oscar for it. Overrated yes, but moving and well acted. You should hopefully know Rash better as Dean Pelton in one of the consummate sitcoms in the world right now, COMMUNITY. The duo brings comedic vitality in spurts to their feature directing debut. And that is largely thanks to Sam Rockwell both saving and elevating this holiday-set dramedy. The non-funny interludes feel undernourished. [To read more, click here.] AMERICAN HUSTLE ★★★★★ Early Xmas present from O. Russell, delivering a charismatic extravaganza. Bale-Cooper-Adams-Lawrence-C.K. bravo.
