THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN ★★★★★ Emotionally devastating. In same league as AMOUR. Bluegrass soundtrack to an intimately epic love story.
Best soundtracks of the year: - CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE? - INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS - THE BROKEN CIRCLE BREAKDOWN One of the best scripted films of the year is written, directed and starring John Turturro, featuring Woody Allen, Vanessa Paradis and Sharon Stone.
My review of the brilliant FADING GIGOLO: http://www.filmaluation.com/fading-gigolo.html A better cast (Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell, with Andy Serkis returning) and the director of CLOVERFIELD, will DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES crush all before it this coming summer? The first trailer: BIG BAD WOLVES ★★★★★ Works gangbusters on a genre level, and weaved in is a social/political satire. PRISONERS needed that quality climax.
PASSION ★½☆☆☆ Execrable remake of French potboiler LOVE CRIME. Why did Rapace and McAdams sign up? What was Brian De Palma thinking?!
De Palma hasn't made a good film since MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE and that was 1996. Where's the director that crafted BLOW OUT and CARLITO'S WAY? PARKLAND ★★★☆☆ Surprisingly humanistic, but feels like the start of a conversation. Needed ZODIAC levels of detail, which Oliver Stone did in JFK.
Have you been eagerly anticipating the sequel to the Channing Tatum-Jonah Hill comedy? The wait is nearly over... “The devil never gets to be the hero,” Ignatius Perrish (Daniel Radcliffe)
My review of ace supernatural murder mystery HORNS: http://www.filmaluation.com/horns.html The first one had moments of exhilaration. The teaser trailer for the sequel suggests a leap forward: |
