TIME TO HUNT ★★★★½

S: Lee Jehoon, Jae-hong Ahn, Woo-sik Choi, Jung-min Park, Hae-soo Park.

Wow! A South Korean action heist film so tense, it’s almost a horror movie. A thriller about hopelessness. Quibble: The set-up for a sequel annoys me. Why does everything have to be a franchise? How can this be topped?

Insidious. The technical action prowess is offset by the queasy TAKEN-esque Caucasian guy killing foreigners plot. It is JOHN WICK without a soul or a brain.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE [season 6] ★★½☆☆
This reminds me of the drop in quality of the final season of PARKS & REC. Having characters shout out punchlines and/or gurn their lines doesn’t make it funny. What a disappointment! Plus, not enough Charles Boyle.

An awkward, irreverent comedy concerning the intersection of organised religion and capitalistic greed. Like THE BOOK OF MORMON musical, there is affection for the protagonists. I’ll watch anything with Danny McBride in it.

QUARRY [season one] ★★★☆☆
I can see why this hitman TV show was cancelled after the first season. The sluggish pacing and mumbling lead hamper proceedings. However, the series weaves in several social and political issues. And the killings do not feel exploitative, rather there is a weight to them.
