With THE FRENCH DISPATCH and ASTEROID CITY, the spell has been broken for me with Wes Anderson movies. These two are tired, twee, dull, verbose, and grating.

INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY ★☆☆☆☆ Even worse than KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. Just awful. Hard to believe this was the story and supporting parts chosen. A leaden experience. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character annoys. Mads Mikkelsen and Antonio Banderas are given no characterisation. Out of the five INDIANA JONESes, only two are good (RAIDERS and CRUSADE).   NO HARD FEELINGS ★★☆☆☆ I gently chortled once. The rest of the runtime devoid of laughs. Formulaic, predictable, mawkish. A disappointing rom-com, with a hollow treatment of worthwhile topics.  Out to own today: JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4
SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE ★★★★★ I thought I was spider-ed out, but this is exhilarating. The opening action scene is wow-inducing. For a superhero movie, the screenplay zings. Can’t wait for BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE due next year.  I've been waiting a long time for a new film from director Gareth Edwards. |
