THE VILLAINESS ★★½☆☆
D: Byung-gil Jung. S: Ok-bin Kim, Ha-kyun Shin, Jun Sung, Seo-hyeong Kim. What a mess of an action movie. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/the-villainess.html WALKING OUT ★★½☆☆
Ds: Alex Smith, Adam Smith (The Slaughter Rule). S: Matt Bomer, Josh Wiggins, Bill Pullman, Alex Neustaedter, Lily Gladstone. A slightly hokey TV movie of the week, fathers and sons melodrama, set in the wilderness. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/walking-out.html 68 KILL ★★★½☆
D: Trent Haaga. S: Matthew Gray Gubler, AnnaLynne McCord, Alisha Boe, Sheila Vand, Sam Eidson, David Maldonado, Eric Podnar, Hallie Grace Bradley. Refreshing role reversal and hilarious mayhem. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/68-kill.html INSYRIATED ★★★☆☆
D: Philippe Van Leeuw. S: Hiam Abbass, Diamand Bou Abboud, Juliette Navis. The war in Syria from the perspective of a house under siege. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/insyriated.html AMERICAN MADE ★★½☆☆
D: Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, Fair Game, Jumper, Mr and Mrs Smith, The Bourne Identity, Go, Swingers). S: Tom Cruise, Domhnall Gleeson, Sarah Wright, Lola Kirke, Caleb Landry Jones, Jesse Plemons. Too much time spent almost celebrating drug/gunrunning audacity, and too little time on the political context. LOGAN LUCKY is fun, but the heist is so preposterous it makes OCEAN'S 11 look like a Mike Leigh movie.
(Shame about the lack of diverse casting.) Is a sequel to THE LAST DETAIL wise? But if anyone can it's Linklater. LAST FLAG FLYING: Nicholson ➡️ Cranston Young ➡️ Fishburne Quaid ➡️ Carell |
