THE TOP 14 WORST FILMS OF 2021
14. GODZILLA VS KONG

This clash of the cinematic behemoths was never going to be HEAT, but virtually nothing stands out. A movie like this lives and dies by its visual effects, and these underwhelm, made worse by appalling cinematography. Nothing feels tangible, therefore little feels at stake. The plot is even more convoluted than BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.

13. NO TIME TO DIE
|
So dull, I almost forgave those checking their phones during the screening. A lifeless soap opera. Rami Malik is wasted.

12. INFINITE
|
Sci-fi action nonsense. How did any of the actors keep a straight face when making this? Shows what a fluke THE MATRIX was.

11. VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE
|
What a poor excuse for a sequel. Even by superhero standards, the clichés abound:
- Villain with similar powers, - Have to rescue love interest, - Partnership dissolving only to reconnect stronger. What a waste of Michelle Williams. Murky cinematography. Inept editing. A tiresome experience. |
10. THE VAULT
|
An almost laughable heist movie riddled with implausibility.

9. SKY HIGH
|
Every character and story decision is nonsensical. Tries to be a crime epic, but pales compared to SCARFACE and A PROPHET.

8. JOLT
|
Why are female characters in 2021 still saying things like, “I don’t normally do this” after sex on a first date?
So banal and half-baked. The preamble had me worried; I shoulda listened to my gut and switched off then. |
7. HONEST THIEF
|
The characters make such ludicrous choices that this crime flick quickly loses all believability. Plus, the action sequences are the opposite of pulse-racing - check out (or not) a shoot-out behind a sofa.

6. THUNDER FORCE
|
Great cast diversity, but a painfully unfunny superhero supposed-comedy. Not even half-baked, quarter-baked.

5. HOW I BECAME A SUPER HERO
|
Who thought this was a good idea? A lethargic francophone genre flick.

4. BLACK HOLES: THE EDGE OF ALL WE KNOW
|
It's not often a documentary makes my worst of the year list. I was looking forward to explanation and elucidation on black holes for non-physicists. Instead, a padded and turgid trek feeding the audience with crumbs of interesting info. I wanted a feast.

3. OXYGEN
|
Painful in its eking out of story.
[spoilers] What a terrible design of a spaceship! No other teams to make sure everything fine before accelerating? Why would your clone not be in their twenties for fertility reasons? What a stupid, weak excuse for a movie. |
2. MONSTER RUN
|
A tedious, lumbering monster movie. Opens its mouth to say something interesting about guilt and failure, but instead roars with mawkish vapidity and illogical world-building.

1. RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY
|
What an incompetent horror-action movie on nearly on every level. The biggest crime: The look is so dark as to be unwatchable.
