D: Aleksey German (Under Electric Clouds).
S: Milan Maric, Danila Kozlovsky, Helena Sujecka, Artur Beschastny, Elena Lyadova.
A biopic that has the feel of Kafka's 'The Castle'. Unending bureaucratic stymieing and wilful obtuseness. Conveys the message, but is too monotone.

D: Christian Petzold (Phoenix, Barbara, Jerichow, Yella, Gespenster, Wolfsburg, The State I Am In).
S: Franz Rogowski, Paula Beer, Godehard Giese, Lilien Batman, Maryam Zaree, Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt, Sebastian Hülk, Emilie de Preissac, Antoine Oppenheim.
Christian Petzold hasn't delivered a dud in his cinema career. He continually dissects authoritarianism in fascinating ways. And here ambitiously incorporates commentary on the current refugee crisis.

D: Benoît Jacquot (Diary of a Chambermaid; 3 Hearts; Farewell, My Queen).
S: Isabelle Huppert, Gaspard Ulliel, Julia Roy, Richard Berry.
Absolutely inane. Even Isabelle Huppert can't save from ignominy. It feels like a crummy adaptation of a subpar, supposedly-erotic, potboiler, airport novel.
