Dreary post-apocalyptic melodrama. Generic sci-fi parable. Inadequate characterisation and inane dialogue. Not close to be as interesting as Z FOR ZACHARIAH (2015), for example.

D: Jonathan Helpert. S: Margaret Qualley, Anthony Mackie, Danny Huston. Dreary post-apocalyptic melodrama. Generic sci-fi parable. Inadequate characterisation and inane dialogue. Not close to be as interesting as Z FOR ZACHARIAH (2015), for example. I think I’m going to read the source novel before watching season two. It is actor Laura Linney’s birthday. Her top 5 films:
- JINDABYNE - MYSTIC RIVER - THE HOUSE OF MIRTH - THE TRUMAN SHOW - YOU CAN COUNT ON ME Out to own today: Disobedience
Papillon
The Miseducation of Cameron Post
“I’m trying to save the world, which for the record will be my fourth time,” Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) VELVET BUZZSAW ★★★½☆
D: Dan Gilroy (Roman J. Israel, Esq., Nightcrawler). S: Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Zawe Ashton, Toni Collette, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, John Malkovich. A scathing critique of the modern art business, which perhaps could be applied to any facet of the entertainment world? A charismatic, misanthropic commentary on the relationship between creativity and money. With this and NIGHTCRAWLER, director Dan Gilroy and cinematographer Robert Elswit show Los Angeles in a fresh, pulsating light. Though, I am not quite sold on the non-scary horror-y stuff. It is actor Gemma Arterton’s birthday. Her top 5 films:
- GEMMA BOVERY - ROCKNROLLA - TAMARA DREWE - THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS - THEIR FINEST |
