“I just have to say this is super creepy and unorthodox,” Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell)
The near decade wait is over. My review of ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: http://www.filmaluation.com/anchorman-2-the-legend-continues.html Let’s put this out there: Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest animation director of all time. And one is heartbroken on hearing of his retirement.
My review of his latest and last, THE WIND RISES: http://www.filmaluation.com/the-wind-rises.html INTERSTELLAR trailer shown in IMAX size pre-HOBBIT. Like the monologue. Not enough yet to gauge. Reminds of CONTACT. Here it is: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG ★★★★☆ Revel in world building, but HOBBIT films suffer from poor pacing, and an intangibility thanks to so much CGI.
DEADFALL ★★☆☆☆ Classy cast, and a landscape made for a chase flick, not attached to a convincing plot. Is no ONE FALSE MOVE.
GRIGRIS ★★★★☆ Engagingly evolving: Dance pic, BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S-esque love story, social commentary. Charismatic lead.
Imagine a bondage S&M comedy take on THE GAME. My review of actor-writer-director Hitoshi Matsumoto’s latest, R100: http://www.filmaluation.com/r100.html
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 ★★★★☆ Gag/pun rate higher than most live action movies. Inventive and energetic.
TOP OF THE LAKE ★★★★½ Greek tragedy murder mystery. Like THE KILLING, except not boll*cks. If not for GRAVITY, best cinematography of 2013.
Rinse repeat. The director of ONCE returns to romantic drama set in the music industry. Starring Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley, my review of CAN A SONG SAVE YOUR LIFE? http://www.filmaluation.com/can-a-song-save-your-life.html
