It’s a shame Jack Black is not in this. He contributed significantly to its predecessor’s entertainment. It is actor Antonio Banderas’s birthday. His top 5 films:
- DESPERADO - HAYWIRE - PHILADELPHIA - SHREK 2 - THE SKIN I LIVE IN FACES PLACES ★★★★★
Filmmaker Agnès Varda and photographer JR team up to make a joyous documentary about making art. It is much more. Also, a celebration of the importance and value of everyone. Director Barry Jenkins’ follow-up to Oscar best picture winner, MOONLIGHT. BLACK 47 ★★★½☆
D: Lance Daly. S: Hugo Weaving, James Frecheville, Stephen Rea, Freddie Fox, Barry Keoghan, Sarah Greene, Jim Broadbent. An Irish revenge western. Has elements of BRAVEHEART, FIRST BLOOD and THE PROPOSITION. Would have benefitted from less stiff dialogue and more thumping direction, but the story is fiercely anti-imperialist. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/black-47.html THE HEIRESSES (Las herederas) ★★½☆☆
D: Marcelo Martinessi. S: Ana Brun, Margarita Irún, Ana Ivanova, Nilda Gonzalez, María Martins. The rhythms of life here are repeated so often that it undermines observations. The film inefficiently utilises its runtime. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/the-heiresses.html It is actor Charlize Theron’s birthday. Her top 5 films:
- ATOMIC BLONDE - MAD MAX: FURY ROAD - THE BURNING PLAIN - TULLY - YOUNG ADULT |

Noun, “filmaluation”: The evaluation of a film Verb, "to filmaluate”: To evaluate a film I am well aware how difficult it is to make a film, put on a stage play, create a television show, write a novel, let alone make something of note.
