A new political cop show. Will it be hard hitting, or pull its punches? I actually enjoyed SNATCHED. The trailer for Amy Schumer’s latest: Allegory levels of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, but looks budget and contains annoying jump scares. BLACK PANTHER ★★★★☆
D: Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station). S: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Andy Serkis, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker. This is a rare thing: A superhero action film suffused with righteous political fury. A contender for Marvel’s best film. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/black-panther.html ON CHESIL BEACH ★★★★☆
D: Dominic Cooke. S: Saoirse Ronan, Billy Howle, Emily Watson, Anne-Marie Duff, Samuel West, Adrian Scarborough. A heartbreaking examination of the disintegration of a marriage on its first day. I’m not crying, you’re crying. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/on-chesil-beach.html JOURNEYMAN ★★★☆☆
D: Paddy Considine (Tyrannosaur). S: Paddy Considine, Jodie Whittaker, Paul Popplewell, Tony Pitts, Anthony Welsh. A boxing movie tear-jerker. Thankfully no cliché comeback story. Not in the same league as Paddy Considine’s directorial debut, TYRANNOSAUR. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/journeyman.html |

Noun, “filmaluation”: The evaluation of a film Verb, "to filmaluate”: To evaluate a film I am well aware how difficult it is to make a film, put on a stage play, create a television show, write a novel, let alone make something of note.
