The death penalty debated via a love story. Emotional, but veers into romantic formula.

MY DAYS OF MERCY ★★★☆☆
D: Tali Shalom-Ezer. S: Ellen Page, Kate Mara, Amy Seimetz, Brian Geraghty, Elias Koteas. The death penalty debated via a love story. Emotional, but veers into romantic formula. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/my-days-of-mercy.html SICARIO was electric. Can lightening be bottled twice? MARROWBONE ★★★☆☆
D: Sergio G. Sánchez. S: George MacKay, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Kyle Soller, Nicola Harrison, Tom Fisher, Mia Goth. Directorial debut of the writer of ‘The Orphanage’. Watch-through-your-fingers suspense. Such an effective horror, but the ending is a hackneyed let-down. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/marrowbone.html PAPILLON [2017] ★★☆☆☆
D: Michael Noer. S: Charlie Hunnam, Rami Malek, Yorick van Wageningen, Roland Møller, Tommy Flanagan, Eve Hewson. A pointless remake. There is continual déjà vu. Inferior in almost every way to the 1973 Steve McQueen version. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/papillon.html MR ROBOT [season 3] ★★★★★
A genius decides to reset capitalism, by bringing down the world's biggest corporation. The aftermath is seismic and unpredicted. Political, topical, is this the best show on television right now? So labyrinthine in places it probably needs a re-watch. Where is this headed? I so hope somewhere satisfactory. Star Wars films ranked, worst ➡️ best:
THE FORCE AWAKENS ★½☆☆☆ ⬇️ THE LAST JEDI ★★☆☆☆ ⬇️ THE PHANTOM MENACE ★★½☆☆ ⬇️ ATTACK OF THE CLONES ★★½☆☆ ⬇️ REVENGE OF THE SITH ★★½☆☆ ⬇️ RETURN OF THE JEDI ★★★☆☆ ⬇️ ROGUE ONE ★★★★☆ ⬇️ A NEW HOPE ★★★★½ ⬇️ THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK ★★★★★ STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI ★★☆☆☆
D: Rian Johnson (Looper, The Brothers Bloom, Brick). S: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Kelly Marie Tran, Benicio Del Toro. Just three standout sequences in 152 minutes. The rest is derivative storytelling, wooden dialogue and non-existent characterisation. The First Order enemy hamstrings this entire project. |

Noun, “filmaluation”: The evaluation of a film Verb, "to filmaluate”: To evaluate a film I am well aware how difficult it is to make a film, put on a stage play, create a television show, write a novel, let alone make something of note.
