JUSTICE LEAGUE ★★☆☆☆
D: Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel). S: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Henry Cavill. Visually awful. Dramatically inert. Characterisation-less. If not for WONDER WOMAN, this franchise would be pointless. THE BREADWINNER ★★★½☆
D: Nora Twomey (The Secret of Kells). S: Saara Chaudry, Laara Sadiq, Shaista Latif, Ali Badshah, Noorin Gulamgaus, Kawa Ada. Did not need story within story. Main thread strong enough. An absorbing political animation. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/the-breadwinner.html With the director of JOHN WICK and ATOMIC BLONDE, if the makers can avoid the usual superhero story banality, DEADPOOL 2 might reach its potential. Scott Frank’s THE LOOKOUT is underrated. The trailer for his Western TV show: Out to own today: Baby Driver
ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ. ★★½☆☆
D: Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler). S: Denzel Washington, Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Tony Plana, Amari Cheatom, DeRon Horton. Bizarre, but not in a good way. Muddled, but ambitiously so. Rotten justice system analysis and character crisis. My review: http://www.filmaluation.com/roman-j-israel-esq.html |

Noun, “filmaluation”: The evaluation of a film Verb, "to filmaluate”: To evaluate a film I am well aware how difficult it is to make a film, put on a stage play, create a television show, write a novel, let alone make something of note.
