I love PATERSON, but director Jim Jarmusch’s vampire flick ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE underwhelmed. Will his new zombie film be better? Bar ROGUE ONE, these STAR WARS movies have been a crushing cinematic disappointment. I’ll be surprised if (the rubbishly monikered) THE RISE OF SKYWALKER changes that. It is actor Seth Rogen’s birthday. His top 5 films:
- FUNNY PEOPLE - PINEAPPLE EXPRESS - TAKE THIS WALTZ - THE GREEN HORNET - THIS IS THE END Nearly made this list: - KUNG FU PANDA - THE DISASTER ARTIST HELLBOY [2019] ★★½☆☆
D: Neil Marshall (Centurion, Doomsday, The Descent, Dog Soldiers). S: David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, Sophie Okonedo, Stephen Graham, Ian McShane. A pointless comic book movie reboot. Though avoids being a complete disaster like THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN flicks. I'm not a particularly big fan of previous director Guillermo del Toro, but his imagination and eye for tactile design are missed here. It is actor Andy Garcia’s birthday. His top 5 films:
- BLACK RAIN - INTERNAL AFFAIRS - OCEAN’S 12 - THE UNTOUCHABLES - THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU’RE DEAD I have a lot of time for Charlize Theron and Seth Gordon movies. Will this though have any political/social substance? GOON (2011) is so underrated. Out of his three other movies that I’ve seen, director Michael Dowse has not made anything to really match it. Will STUBER remedy that? (Nanjiani, Bautista, Sorvino, Gillan, Gilpin, Uwais. Ace cast.) Winner of two awards at the Sundance Film Festival 2019. |
